Police boots – care to ensure durability and performance
Police boots are a vital part of an officer’s uniform. Designed to protect your feet and enable your performance on duty, our boots should be cared for to ensure durability and continued optimum performance.
Fitting and commissioning
Unlike everyday footwear, Mitre Blue Light police boots are sized in 7mm increments to ensure a perfect fit. The precision of the fitting often means that you will require a smaller size than your usual footwear. We recommend that you try on the boots when you receive them, following the lacing instructions below. Lacing your boots correctly will ensure a snug, comfortable fit. Remember there’s no need for a second pair of socks!
We recommend that you polish your boots before you wear them for the first time, paying particular attention to the seams. This will improve the suppleness of the leather and help prevent liquid absorption. Always use a brush with good quality solid polish, buff with a second clean brush and shine with a duster.
Caring for your footwear
After use, wipe off any light soil and debris, paying particular attention to the sole. Check carefully for damage or signs of wear and tear, particularly if you have been involved in public order situations or training. If your footwear becomes damaged, it will not provide the optimum level of protection and should be replaced at the earliest opportunity. We strongly advise that you never wear damaged footwear whilst carrying out a risk-related activity.
If your footwear is heavily soiled or has been exposed to petrol or chemicals, it may be necessary to wash thoroughly to remove the contaminant. In the event that you have come into contact with corrosive chemicals, please hose down before removing your footwear. Allow your boots to dry naturally and away from direct heat. If laces are worn and need replacement, please ensure they are replaced with flame retardant laces to the same specification.
